InExeter appoints Nicola Wheeler as new Chief Executive Officer Nicola Wheeler

InExeter, the business improvement district (BID) in Exeter, has announced the appointment of Nicola Wheeler as its new Chief Executive Officer. Nicola will be joining the team in October, bringing with her a wealth of experience and expertise in community investment, strategic partnerships, and sustainability programs.

Nicola is currently Head of Community Programmes at Peabody, a not-for-profit housing association and placemaker in London. As part of Nicola's role at Peabody, she led a programme of community work in Ealing which included active travel, meanwhile uses, training and apprenticeships and green infrastructure.

Previously a student at Exeter University, Nicola is relocating back to the city. She comments “I have fond memories of my time in Exeter as a student as well as having family nearby. The plan was always to return to Exeter and I am looking forward to reconnecting with the city.”

Nicola's exceptional organisational ability, commitment to service delivery, and effective stakeholder communication make her a valuable addition to the InExeter team.

Mat Jarret, newly appointed Chair of the Board of Directors at InExeter, expressed his enthusiasm about Nicola's appointment, stating, "We are delighted to welcome Nicola Wheeler as our new Chief Executive. Her extensive experience and proven track record in community investment and partnership building make her the perfect fit for this role. We are confident that Nicola's leadership and vision will further enhance InExeter's mission to create a thriving and distinctive city."

Nicola commented on her appointment, saying, "I am excited to be joining InExeter as Chief Executive. Having spent years working in a placemaking capacity and making a positive impact on the communities where I live, I am excited to contribute to the development and enhancement of Exeter. I look forward to working closely with the team and local businesses to deliver a strategy that promotes a vibrant, safe, and thriving city."

Nicola was introduced to stakeholders and businesses at InExeter’s Annual General Meeting that was held at Exe Restaurant on Tuesday 11th July. She looks forward to joining the team full-time at the beginning of October.
