Women bucking the trend at Exeter City Council

Women working for Exeter City Council are bucking the national trend by receiving higher average salaries than their male colleagues, the local authority has revealed.

The latest gender pay report show the difference between females and males has increased slightly since last year – from 4.59 per cent to five per cent.

The reason for the difference at the Council is down to the fact that three times more men occupy lower paid jobs than women. At the City Council men hold 75 per cent of the jobs in the lowest pay scale.

This means that the City Council is one of the few places that actually bucks the trend, with most organisations still paying men on average more than women.

Since 2017, all companies, charities and public sector departments with 250 employees or more must publish an annual report comparing differences in pay.
