Ukrainian refugees have taken part in a free guided Red Coat tour of Exeter to discover more about the rich heritage of their adopted city.

Around 20 adults and children took part in the tour with a translator, and were shown the Cathedral, Exeter Castle and other gems in the city centre.

Red Coat Cherry Gilchrist, who led the tour, said: “It was an incredibly rewarding experience to guide them around central Exeter. Some of the elements which interested them most were also unexpected – they loved the story of Princess Henrietta Anne in particular.

“They were fascinated by the remains of the Norman Castle, and asked for extra time at the end to cover the Cathedral in more detail. I would love to take another Ukrainian group around the city.”

Details were shared with the group about free activities which highlight Exeter’s rich past, including other Red Coat free guided tours, the Royal Albert Memorial Museum and the historic Guildhall in Exeter High Street.
