Treemendous work from local planters in Exeter

Published: 22 February 2023

Community tree planting

Residents will be able to enjoy the fruits of their labour after taking part in a community tree planting session.

People in Stoke Hill, Exeter, came together to plant seven fruiting trees on green space behind Plassey Close. The trees will add to Exeter’s tree canopy, provide valuable open space and wildlife habitats, as well as fruit for the future!

The event was organised by Community Builder Ebbie Peters, with help from Exeter City Council’s Public and Green Space team.

Many local residents turned out to help and witness the event and hot drinks and cakes were supplied by the locals.

Seven trees in total were planted: two different varieties of sweet fruiting cherries, two quince and three local apple varieties – Lucombes pine (eating apple), Whimple wonder (cooking apple) and Charles Ross (dual purpose).

Fruit from the trees will be available to collect in season by local residents.
