Topsham is all set for some Christmas sparkle with the big lights switch-on and festive market.

A host of family fun is planned on Friday 25 November to celebrate the official launch of the most wonderful time of the year.

From 4.30pm to 5pm outside Matthews Hall – people will stand by for action with the help of Higher Beings Circus stilt walkers, and there will be entertainment from renowned local musician Jimmy Ireland and from Topsham’s Town Crier Rogan Meadows.

The final countdown to Lights On with come from Liz and Dave Hodges, Topsham’s legendary community figures. There will be a chance to grab a mince pie and some indulgent hot chocolate from Matthews Hall Cafe.

At 5pm – the Big Switch On takes place, so prepare to be amazed at how beautiful the lights are this year in Fore Street, High Street, Ferry Road and Topsham Quay.

From 5pm until early evening people can head down to Topsham Quay for fire juggling, Christmas Carols and a special appearance from Father Christmas. Festive fare will be served from The Lighter Inn and Route 2 cafe, with treats for the early evening.

From 5pm to 8pm the Topsham Festive Market will be in full swing at St Margaret’s Church, with more than 30 artisan stalls from Topsham and beyond, plus mulled wine, festive food, carols and a few surprises.

Last year the event created an amazing Christmas atmosphere in Topsham and shops around High Street, Fore Street and Ferry Road – this year organisers are hoping for an even bigger buzz making it the perfect start to the festive season.
