These new images reveal the progress on site of Exeter’s landmark new leisure centre.

St Sidwell’s Point, the UK’s first leisure centre built to the super energy efficient Passivhaus standard, is nearing completion and is expected to open in Spring 2022.

Cllr Duncan Wood, Lead Councillor for Leisure and Physical Activity, said: “It is great to see such good progress and this incredible building nearing completion.

“St Sidwell’s Point will be a major addition to our leisure facilities in Exeter and I really can’t wait to see it open in the spring.

“I think people will be truly amazed when they see the quality of this building – it has been a long time coming but I can assure you it will be well worth the wait.”

Doug Lloyd operations director, Kier Construction Western & Wales, said “We are extremely proud to be delivering this outstanding high quality facility for the people of Exeter and the wider communities.

“The collaboration from everyone who has been part of the project has been exceptional. Building the first Passivhaus leisure centre has been a unique experience that has enabled those involved to upskill and develop their knowledge in sustainable construction techniques and the importance of energy efficient buildings for the future.

“This project will have a lasting legacy by using these skills to benefit other projects being delivered across the region.”

St Sidwell’s Point has been funded by the City Council and constructed by Kier.

The state-of-the-art new leisure complex will feature an eight lane, 25m main pool and four lane, 20m learner pool, both with moveable floors making learning to swim accessible to all who visit.

The pools have recently been filled with water.

Due an ultra-filtration process, the pools will have exceptional water quality with require minimal chemical content, which will greatly improve the experience for swimmers compared to a standard pool.

There’s also a confidence pool and 100 seat spectator seated area.
