Multicultural Sportsfest 2023 set to bring together Exeter’s diverse communities Sportsfest 2023

Multicultural communities from across Exeter are set to come together for a weekend of sporting activity, games and fun.

A diverse range of groups from Exeter’s communities, including refugees currently being housed in the city, will unite under the common themes of sport and inclusivity.

Multicultural Sportsfest 2023 takes place on the weekend of 26 and 27 August at Isca Academy and Wonford  Sports Centre and is expected to attract around 1,200 participants.

The event is a joint partnership between Live & Move (Exeter and Cranbrook’s Sport England Local Delivery Pilot), Inclusive Exeter, Devon County Council and Devon Philipino Community Association and will include tournaments for volleyball, badminton, basketball, chess, Zumba and other physical activities.

There will also be table tennis, children’s parlour games, Rubik’s Cube and more

In previous years it was an annual event just for Filipino communities but this year it has been expanded.

Members of the following communities will be participating:

  • Filipino communities
  • Afghan communities
  • Bengali communities
  • Hong Kongers
  • Two asylum seeker groups
  • Other minority groups

Due to its tournament format, groups will be completing for prizes and there will be eliminations as activities progress throughout the event.

Cllr Duncan Wood, Lead Councillor for Leisure Services and Physical Activity, said: “Multicultural Sportsfest 2023 looks set to be a fabulous weekend of sporting competition and fun where a diverse range of community groups come together to share their love for sport and friendship. I can’t wait for it to happen.”
