Excitement builds for first Exeter Community Lottery draw

Excitement builds for first Exeter Community Lottery draw Cllr Martin Pearce, Lead Councillor for Communities

People are being encouraged to grab their tickets for the very first Exeter Community Lottery draw, which takes place on Saturday (22 July).

Excitement is building to the big day and the Community Lottery is already on track to raise over £30,000 for good causes in the city.

The first draw will be made on Saturday with ticket holders in with a chance of scooping £25,000.

Cllr Martin Pearce, Lead Councillor for Communities, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for people in the city to give money to support local good causes.

“We’ve got art groups, history groups, sports groups like Exeter Strollers and we’ve even got school groups that have signed up. In fact, there’s every aspect of our community represented.

“I would encourage everybody to go to the Exeter Community Lottery website, look at the whole list of good causes that are on there, sign up and get yourself a ticket and maybe you can win a prize as well.

“This is all about supporting good causes and putting money back into our community.”

Hundreds of tickets have already been snapped up in Exeter, but there’s still time for people to get involved. There is a one in 50 chance of winning a prize.

So far 77 community groups, organisations and good causes have signed up to the Exeter Community Lottery. They stand to get a slice of ticket proceedings. And it’s still not too late either for groups to sign up and get involved.

When people buy tickets they can choose which cause they would like to support. Fifty pence in every pound then goes to that cause, with 10p going into a central fund for other good causes.

That means a guaranteed 60 per cent of the ticket proceeds will go the good causes, with the remainder being put towards prizes and operating costs.

Once the first draw has taken place on Saturday, draws will then take place on a weekly basis.
