A memorial tree has been planted in Northernhay Gardens in memory of all those who have sadly lost their lives during the coronavirus pandemic.

The Dove tree was jointly planted by Council Leader Phil Bialyk and the Lord Mayor of Exeter Peter Holland on the UK’s National Day of Reflection – exactly a year after the start of the first lockdown.

A memorial plaque will be erected close to the tree, with the inscription: “This tree was planted in memory of everyone who lost their lives during the Covid-19 pandemic. March 23 2021.”

Cllr Bialyk said: “This memorial tree has been planted to remember all of those who have died as we reflect over the past year.

“The tree is planted in Northernhay, which is maintained by the Council and is one of the oldest parks in the country, and I am very proud it has been planted here.”
