Free energy advice is available to local residents and landlords, Exeter City Council has announced.

The City Council works with Exeter Community Energy (ECOE) to ensure homes across the city stay warm and energy bills are kept to a minimum.

And since April 2020, landlords can no longer let a property with an EPC rating of F or G unless they have a valid exemption in place.

The Council is busy identifying properties currently being let with an EPC rating below E. Anyone renting or aware of properties with F or G ratings should contact the environmental health team on 01392 265147 or email environmental.health@exeter.gov.uk

The Council is keen to engage with landlords in the first instance to offer information and support. However, if landlords fail to engage within a reasonable time period and make necessary improvements, the Council may take action, including the issuing of fines up to £5,000 per breach, per household and a notice requiring works to be carried out.

Exeter Community Energy (ECOE) can help landlords and their tenants access grant funding, save money and stay warm in their homes. Contact ECOE on 0800 772 3617 or email healthyhomes@ecoe.org.uk.

Financial assistance to make property improvements is also available through Lendology CIC to offer low interest loans. The team at Lendology can help to take the stress out of funding repairs and improvements. Contact the team on 01823 461099 or www.lendology.org.uk for more information.
