The Exeter Plan

Consultation is continuing on the Exeter Plan which sets out how the city can evolve and provide the attractive buildings, spaces and neighbourhoods our communities need.

The next public engagement event takes place on Monday 27 November, at Emmanuel Hall, Emmanuel Road, St Thomas, EX4 1EJ, between 1pm and 7pm.

The Exeter Plan includes policies that seek to deliver the development Exeter needs in high quality, connected places and well-designed buildings and spaces which support people in their everyday lives.

Development quality is a key part of the plan and will be supported by a range of infrastructure, energy efficient buildings and renewable energy, issues which are specifically covered by the Plan.

Looking at development in this way offers opportunities to create places that highlight Exeter’s distinct characteristics, reflect local culture and integrate with existing communities, promoting social cohesion and healthy lifestyles.

Cllr Emma Morse, Lead Councillor for City Development said: “The quality of the places in which we live and work is fundamental for so many reasons, including to support our health and wellbeing, attract investment, generate pride in our city and help achieve our net zero ambitions.

“And right now, alongside the Exeter Plan consultation, we are consulting on the Water Lane Supplementary Planning Document, this important work sets out what development at Water Lane, near the Quay, should look like.

“It builds on the Liveable Exeter principles to offer more detail around concepts such as welcoming neighbourhoods and safe and healthy streets to ensure that there is a clear guide for developers that Exeter wants high quality development which supports and integrates with our communities.”
