His Majesty King Charles III thanks Exeter for the city’s condolences A card sent from Buckingham Place

The people of Exeter have been thanked for the city’s condolences to His Majesty King Charles III following the death of his mother Queen Elizabeth II.

A card sent from Buckingham Palace was addressed to the Lord Mayor and people of Exeter, and features a picture of a young Charles with his mother taken at Balmoral in 1952.

The message reads: “It was so very kind of you to send me such a wonderfully generous message following the death of my beloved mother.

“Your most thoughtful words are enormously comforting, and I cannot tell you how deeply they are appreciated at this time of immense sorrow.”

The card is signed Charles R.

The card will be added to information from the city relating to the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II which will be kept at the Devon Records Office for historical purposes.

Thousands of people in the city signed Books of Condolence following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, which will also be kept at the Devon Records Office.

Lord Mayor of Exeter Cllr Yolonda Henson said: “It was wonderful to be sent this card from King Charles III thanking the people of Exeter, and we were absolutely honoured to receive it.”
