Exeter City Council tax – one of the lowest in country

Published: 1 March 2019

People in Exeter will pay £2.97 a week for all City Council services, the local authority has announced.

The City Council sets one of the lowest council tax levels in the country.

When the new bill lands at the end of March, just 8% comes back to the City Council.

That’s because Exeter City Council also collects council tax money on behalf of Devon County Council (75% of the bill), the Police (12%) and the Fire Service (5%).

The average (Band D) person in Exeter pays a total of £1,838.14 on council tax but the City Council takes £155.05.

At its latest meeting, the City Council agreed to put its council tax up by nine pence per week (based on a Band D property).
