Don’t forget your photo ID for 4 May elections 4 May elections

With just days to go before the City Council elections on Thursday 4 May, people in Exeter are being reminded to make sure they have appropriate photo ID to be able to vote at a polling station.

Meanwhile, those who have chosen to vote by post are also being reminded to complete their paperwork and post their vote back as soon as possible. Completed postal votes must be sent back ahead of election day on Thursday 4 May.

This is the first time voters have needed to show photo ID to be able to vote at a polling station.

The new requirement was introduced by the UK Government’s Elections Act, which was passed at the end of last year.

Some of the accepted forms of photo ID include a driving licence, passport or Older Person’s Bus Pass. Voters will be able to use expired ID if they are still recognisable from the photo.

For a full list of accepted ID, along with more information about the new requirement, go to www.exeter.gov.uk/voterid

Those who have applied for a postal vote will not be able to vote at a polling station, even if they do not use their postal vote.

Completed postal votes can, if necessary, be handed in at the polling station on the day of the election.
