Events are being organised across the city to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III.

King Charles will be crowned on Saturday 6 May at Westminster Abbey in London, and events are being organised in Exeter to celebrate the occasion.

Exeter’s historic Guildhall will be hosting a free royal exhibition from Tuesday 2 May until Friday 5 May (apart from Thursday 4 May because of the local elections).

On display will be memorabilia, regalia and photos from the Guildhall ‘vaults’ that have been donated and collected from various Royal visits over the years.

Guildhall Mace Sergeants will be on hand to answer questions and talk about the various items. The exhibition will run from 10am to 4pm at the historic Guildhall, in Exeter High Street.

Exeter has a rich connection to royalty and the many visits to the city are the topic of a new Red Coat Guided Tour.

Starting on Sunday 23 April, the free tours will explore Royal Visits to the city, from the time of Alfred the Great in the 9th Century right up until present day. The other dates are Monday 8 May and Saturday 17 June.

People will be able to discover the captivating stories of kings and queens who came to Exeter. Not all visits were pleasant and the 90-minute tours will help unravel the mysteries and dramas that took place in Exeter's historic streets.

Tours start at 11.15am from the Hooker Statue and need to be booked in advance on the Red Coat page of the Corn Exchange website at https://www.exetercornexchange.co.uk/book-tickets/exeters-red-coat-guided-tours/

The day after the Coronation – Sunday 7 May – Princesshay will be holding a Coronation Big Lunch in the heart of the city centre.
