Exeter Postal Vote Envelope 8,000 extra voters have signed up

A campaign to encourage more people in Exeter to vote in next week’s General Election has paid off with nearly 8,000 extra voters signing up.

Reminders to encourage people to register to vote prompted a flood of registrations in the lead up to last week’s deadline.

John Street, the City Council’s Electoral Registration & Returning Officer, said: “We have added 7,938 electors to the Exeter Constituency in the last few weeks and another 410 to the part of the City which is within the East Devon constituency.

“We have also added 1,474 postal votes since 1 November (now 13,078) to the Exeter part and 250 have been added to East Devon.”

All postal votes have now been sent out by the Council.

“It has been a mammoth task for the team to keep up with this level of demand and I must thank everyone for all their hard work,” added John.

People in Exeter – and across the country - will go to the polls next Thursday. A total of 51 polling stations will be open within the Exeter constituency from 7am until 10pm for people to vote.
