Your views wanted on proposed new Street Trading Policy for Exeter Street Traders

The City Council is seeking views on its draft new Street Trading Policy.

The draft policy aims to provide a framework to regulate street trading. It will serve as a reference for licence holders, enforcement officers, other responsible authorities and the Council’s Licensing Committee and will strengthen the decision-making process for applications.

The draft policy recognises the importance of street trading to the vibrancy and vitality of the city and to the Council’s priorities of a prosperous local economy, a healthy and active city, great neighbourhoods and communities and a Net Zero carbon city.

It highlights some important proposed changes to the existing policy including a mandatory requirement for basic DBS checks on applicants and staff, an assessment framework for officers and enhanced health and safety requirements.

It also has proposals on emissions standards, enhancement of green spaces, waste management and a greater diversity of food offering.
