What’s open and what’s shut during ‘lockdown’

Covid 19 Update What’s open and what’s shut

With the country entering another ‘lockdown’, people in Exeter will want to know which City Council services remain open and which will close or remain closed.

From Thursday 5 November the following facilities remain open:

  • All City Council-run car parks – staying open
  • Customer Service Centre, Paris Street –  staying open for housing enquiries and emergency homelessness issues only
  • Parks (including Valley Parks) and open spaces – staying open
  • Play areas within these parks – staying open
  • Allotments – staying open (with certain restrictions)
  • Cemeteries – staying open
  • Matford Centre – open for livestock auctions only
  • Recycling centres operated by Devon County Council – staying open but reuse shops to close
  • Exeter Farmers’ Markets – staying open

Although the above facilities remain open, people are expected to follow government guidelines and maintain social distancing. 

Waste and recycling collections (including brown bin garden waste and bulky waste collections) will continue to operate and people are advised to present their bins on their usual collection dates. Recycling bring banks will also remain open.

The following facilities will now close from 5 November until further notice:

  • All City Council-run leisure centres - closed
  • The Royal Albert Memorial Museum and Art Gallery – closed
  • Corn Exchange closed except for blood donor sessions. Box office (phone and online) remains open for ticket sales
  • Tennis courts - closed
  • Skate parks - closed
  • Bowling greens and croquet lawns - closed
  • Red Coat Guided Tours – closed
  • Custom House – closed
  • Exeter Visitor Information and Tickets – closed
  • Underground Passages – closed
  • Matford Sunday Market and Car Boot Sale – closed
  • Exeter’s historic Guildhall - closed
