Wait is nearly over for Exeter’s new leisure centre St Sidwell’s Point

Published: 23 December 2021

The wait is nearly over for the opening of the City Council’s amazing new leisure centre St Sidwell’s Point.

The finishing touches are underway and the centre is expected to open in the spring. As a reminder of what to expect we’ve highlighted our six favourite things about the new building - the first leisure centre in the UK to be built to the super energy-efficient Passivhaus standard.

The swimming pool has moveable floors
At St Sidwell’s Point there will be a state-of-the-art, eight lane main swimming pool and confidence pool – with moveable floors – as well as a learner’s pool. That means that learning to swim will be accessible to all who visit. The water quality is also expected to be the best of any pool in the country, with minimal chemical content, due a special filtration system.

The gym has more than 100 stations
For those itching to get back into the gym next year, this one is for you. The gym at St Sidwell’s Point will have more than 100 stations, a designated free weights area plus group exercise zones – including an indoor cycling studio and two fitness studios.

You can relax and unwind at the spa
We all deserve a little pampering in 2022. The new facility has stunning spa facilities and a health suite on the top floor, with amazing views across Exeter. It is perfect for a treat with friends or when we need a little bit of time to relax after a workout. There’s also the chance to retreat to the rooftop terrace and private bar area to extend an unwinding visit.

Parents will be able to enjoy a bit of ‘me time’
St Sidwell’s point has a creche allowing parents to take some time for themselves in the pools or gym, while allowing peace of mind that their child is in safe hands. Parents can also accompany their children to the colourful soft play area afterwards, to burn off a little extra steam.

Visitors can grab a bite to eat after their session
After building up an appetite during a workout or swim, visitors can enjoy the on-site café, and sit back and relax with a nutritious refreshment.

The complex is located in Exeter’s city centre
If you haven’t noticed the magnificent site already - St Sidwell’s Point is located right in the heart of the city centre, next door to the new Bus Station. This means that the complex, which has a very large capacity, will be easily accessible to all residents.
