Vehicle removed from Exeter Canal

A black Toyota Celica entered the Exeter Canal at Haven Road by the Canal Office around 1 am on Wednesday night. The driver was able to safely escape and contacted the Canal Office on Thursday 27 August to inform them of the incident.

The Canal Office instructed local commercial diving business TMS Maritime to assist with recovering the vehicle from the Canal and hi-ab crane assistance was provided from CK Commercials.

The Canal team temporarily closed a narrow section of the Canal to facilitate a safe operating area and marshalled the area.

Absorbent booms and pads were made ready to be deployed in case of oil or fuel escaping and fortunately very few signs of any potential pollution were noted.
