Tree planting at Heavitree park

Residents in Exeter have been helping to green up the city.

An alder tree was planted in Heavitree Pleasure Ground as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy, an initiative launched to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee earlier this year.

The planting was organised by community charity Park Life Heavitree.

Ben Hunt, of Park Life, said: “We were very privileged to be planting an alder tree donated from the Tree of Trees at Buckingham Palace as part of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations.”

The group were joined by local residents and the City Council’s Lead Councillor for City Management and Environmental Services, Cllr Amal Ghusain. Philip Jenkinson, Deputy Lieutenant of Devon, also attended and gave a speech.

Park Life Heavitree’s young garden volunteer, Oliver, was involved in the ceremony, along with the charity’s three main garden volunteers.
