Take a step back in time to discover Exeter’s amazing history The City Wall Trail

People are being given the chance to step back in time to discover Exeter’s rich history and heritage with a series of themed, self-guided tours in the city centre.

Exeter’s City Wall and Woollen Trial historic walks have relaunched, with the old trail panels removed and new contemporary panels put in their place.

The City Wall self-guided tour allows people to pick up a free leaflet from the Custom House Visitor Centre and discover the exciting history of Exeter's City Wall. Alternatively people can download it here.

The oldest parts of the wall are almost 2,000 years old and it has been the site of many important historical events.

Around 70 per cent of the wall still exists. Follow the trail to discover colourful information panels at strategic points. There are quizzes and puzzles for children to do, so bring paper and pencils.

The Woollen Trail is another self-guided tour which allows people to explore the key sites of Exeter's most important historic industry - the woollen cloth trade.

A free leaflet can be picked up from the Custom House Visitor Centre or alternatively download it here.

People can follow the eight information panels at strategic points in the city, and visit some of the most interesting and beautiful of Exeter's buildings.

A third historic walk, the Medieval Trail, is due to be launched shortly.
