Stop, Look and Listen: ‘Art & Artefact’ at Maketank Stop, Look and Listen: ‘Art & Artefact’ at Maketank

An exhibition of work by four Exeter-based artists starts this weekend (Sunday 6 August) at a city-centre venue.

‘Art & Artefact’ is the latest exhibition at Maketank in Paris Street, Exeter.

The exhibition is an exciting opportunity to see a broad spectrum of work by four artists who work out of Exeter.

Ian Summers has made an installation of musical instruments from around the world, together with some people can try for themselves.

Stella Tripp is showing recent abstract works on fabric and paper, inspired by time spent in temporary studios in Dorset, Somerset and Derbyshire.

Christine Sawyer’s tapestries reflect her concern for the natural world and how our response to environmental issues is affected by media reporting. And David Sawyer presents a variety of his musical instruments and sound-makers, continuing a sequence of inventions which he began in the 1960s.

The exhibitors have links to Art Haven, which previously created a gallery space on Exeter Quay. This artist-led initiative, with a similar philosophy to Maketank, provides support for the current exhibition.

The gallery, which has received funding from Exeter City Council, is open every day from 6 to 19 August, from 10am to 5pm. The launch party is from 3pm to 7pm on 6 August, and everyone is welcome to attend.
