Still time to register to vote in Exeter as list of candidates published Register to vote

Time is running out to register for the upcoming City Council elections on 4 May – those not yet registered should move quickly.

To participate in the May elections, residents must be listed on the electoral register. The last chance to register is at midnight on Monday 17 April. Registering online only takes five minutes at gov.uk/register-to-vote

This year, Exeter residents will cast their votes for 13 City Councillors across all 13 wards in the city. Each elected Councillor is appointed for a four year term, with a third of the 39 seats contested each year (one seat per ward).

The nomination period for this year's elections has ended. A summary of the candidates nominated in each of the 13 wards can now be found on the Council's website

On 4 May, a total of 55 polling stations will be open from 7am until 10pm.

Voters have multiple options for casting their votes – in person, by mail, or by designating a trusted individual to vote on their behalf, known as a proxy vote.

Following the passing of the Elections Act 2022, anyone who wants to vote in person, including those acting as a proxy on behalf of someone else, will be required to produce an accepted form of photographic ID to prove their identity before they can be issued with a ballot paper.
