An invitation to unlock the secrets of wildlife photography is being offered by the RSPB with a three-hour beginner’s course by photographer Steve Edwards.

It will be held on Sunday 8 October, 10.30am to 1.30pm, at RSPB Bowling Green hide in Topsham, which offers a haven for beginners eager to explore the intricate art of wildlife photography.

Award-winning photographer Steve Edwards, whose work has been featured in numerous prestigious publications, will lead the course. His expertise spans global stock photography, education, and commissions from the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds.

The course combines theory with practical sessions and aims to boost confidence in using the range of camera settings. It costs £33 for RSPB members, £35 for non-members.

Groups are limited to six participants to ensure personalised guidance. Attendees are advised to bring their camera and the camera’s manual.

The course includes exclusive use of RSPB’s Lookout. It’s a prime spot to practice and ask questions, overlooking the Bowling Green Marsh Reserve.

Complementary hot drinks are provided. No toilet facilities are available on site - the nearest facilities are a 20-minute walk away at Topsham Quay or Darts Farm.

Under 18s are welcomed but must be accompanied by a paying adult. Please bring a packed lunch and water if needed.

Participants are encouraged to arrive by train to reduce carbon emissions. Limited parking is available in Topsham, with additional parking at Darts Farm Shopping Village, a 20-minute walk away.
