Residents reminded to register and not lose their right to vote Register to vote

Residents in Exeter are being reminded that they must be registered to ensure that they do not lose the right to vote in this year’s local elections.

It takes just five minutes to apply online but if people are not on the electoral register they won’t be able to vote.

This year elections will be held in Exeter on Thursday 5 May.

Each elected councillor is appointed for a four year term, with a third of the 39 seats contested each year (one seat per ward).

Once on the electoral register, people have a range of options for casting their ballot - in person at a polling station, by post or by appointing someone they trust to vote in their place (a proxy vote).

People can apply for a postal vote at the electoral commission website. Forms can also be requested by contacting the elections office on 01392 265141.

Remember, it takes no more than five minutes to register to vote by visiting www.gov.uk/registertovote
