New Bus Station

A tendering process to secure an operator for the new Exeter Bus Station is set to be launched.

At a meeting of the Leisure Complex and Bus Station Programme Board, councillors were told that four potential operators had previously expressed an interest in operating the new bus station, which is set to open in around two years.

Potential operators will be invited to submit expressions of interest in June, with tenders evaluated between July and August. An agreement for the lease is expected to be issued in September.

Councillors were told that the operator will be in charge of repairs and maintenance.

The new Exeter Bus Station will include covered waiting and boarding areas and high quality facilities, and will replace the current station which was opened in 1964.

The new station will be build alongside St Sidwell’s Point, the city’s new Passivhaus leisure centre. Both developments are being funded by the City Council.

Work on site started in January 2019 and will take around two years to complete. The current bus station, operated by Stagecoach, will remain open throughout the period of redevelopment.
