Published: 21 April 2023

Morris dancing extravaganza comes to Exeter Joint Morris Organisations’ Day of Dance 2023

Hundreds of Morris dancers are set to descend on Exeter on Saturday (22 April) for a day of music and dance across more than 20 locations throughout the city.

Exeter was chosen as this year’s location for the JMO Day of the Dance.

More than 60 Morris sides will provide lively entertainment throughout the day at a variety of venues throughout the city centre and the Quayside.

The action gets underway at 10am at an opening ceremony on the Cathedral Green. Singer Jim Causley and the Lord Mayor of Exeter, Cllr Yolonda Henson, will open the proceedings.

The JMO Day of the Dance is a collaborative event organised in turn by one of the three Morris organisations in the UK, The Morris Federation.

People in Exeter will be able to tap into more than 100 performances across the city from 10.30am to 4pm.

The Day of the Dance is a celebration of Morris and traditional dancing held annually at a different location in the UK.

This year it is being organised by Open Morris, held in Exeter, and hosted by Beltane Border Morris.

Money raised from the day will go towards Devon Wildlife Trust and St Petrock’s (Exeter).
