Exeter’s Lord Mayor has paid tribute to the efforts of Exeter’s street cleaners in keeping the city looking good.

The praise comes just days after Exeter was named as one of the proudest and cleanest cities in the UK.

Lord Mayor Cllr Trish Oliver was able to observe the street cleaners at work when she popped out of Exeter’s historic Guildhall on the High Street during a recent coffee morning to raise money for her charity, Inclusive Exeter.

She said: “Our Street Clean Team deserve the heartiest congratulations. It‘s no wonder Exeter has been named as the second cleanest city in the UK.

“The team are out in all weathers, never complain, work hard, and are super friendly to the Lord Mayor when she interrupts them at work!” the Lord Mayor added.

A recent study carried out by builder’s merchant Buildworld ranked Exeter in second place nationally for how clean it is.

Exeter also fared well in the overall Neighbourhood Pride category, behind Preston in first place and ahead of St Albans, which came third.  Plymouth came 25th in the survey.
