Last chance to nominate batonbearers for Queen's Baton Relay

Published: 8 February 2022

Nominations need to be made by 14 February

People still have time to nominate a community hero to be a Batonbearer in Exeter for this summer’s Queen’s Baton Relay to mark the start of the Commonwealth Games.

But they will need to be quick – nominations need to be in by 14 February.

Organisers are looking for 2,022 Batonbearers, each with inspiring stories, to take on the special experience of carrying the Queen’s Baton this summer.

The Queen’s Baton Relay will travel to every region in England, before arriving at the Opening Ceremony of the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham on 28 July.

  • People are being asked to nominate individuals who have met the following criteria:
  • Always willing to take on a challenge and have a unique and inspiring story;
  • Have made a meaningful contribution to sport, education, the arts, culture, or charity;
  • Are a figure of inspiration that positively challenges others to achieve their best;
  • Has taken on a challenge or cause and made a positive impact within their community.

The closing date for nominations in 14 February.

Exeter City Council is backing the search for Batonbearers.

Cllr Amal Ghusain, Lead Councillor for Communities & Culture, said: “There are so many community groups and organisations across the city that make a difference to the lives of so many people.

“Within those groups there are inspirational figures who throw their energy and passion into helping others. This is a chance for people in Exeter to nominate our neighbourhood heroes for this very special event.”

Nominees must be 12 years or older on 2 June (the first day of the Relay).
