Inclusive Exeter has received funding from the National Lottery Community Fund

Inclusive Exeter has received funding from the National Lottery Community Fund to run a three-year project working with grassroots ethnically diverse communities in Exeter and the surrounding areas.

The Better Connections project will support Inclusive Exeter to continue its drop-in support service, enabling beneficiaries to overcome the immediate difficulties they present with and in the longer term enhance their self-esteem.

Through cultural events and the Physical Activity Programme people will be better connected within their own communities.

The project will promote cross-cultural links, breaking down barriers, improving understanding between people and generally contributing to a more cohesive society.

Individuals and families will see improved wellbeing, reduced isolation and improved physical and mental health.

Kate Hannan, of Inclusive Exeter, said: “This grant will make a huge difference for us. We will be able to continue and expand the activities we have been delivering across Exeter and the surrounding area.

“We would like to thank The National Lottery players and the National Lottery Community Fund most sincerely for this grant. We would also like to thank Mahi Ahmed from Exeter City Council’s Communities and Live and Move teams, who worked with us to secure this funding for us.”

Cllr Martin Pearce, Lead Councillor for Communities, said: “Inclusive Exeter plays a fantastic role in bringing communities together, and I am so pleased that they have been awarded a substantial grant which will ensure that the crucial service they offer residents in the city can continue to thrive.”

Inclusive Exeter, which is supported by the City Council, is a community interest company that brings together groups and individuals from diverse communities across Exeter and beyond.

It is a community-led organisation which holds and facilitates activities and events to improve relationships between communities and local and national services, fostering better integration and reduced isolation.

Inclusive Exeter recognises and celebrates diversity, builds bridges between communities and enhances community cohesion.

Through its activities it aims to improve health and wellbeing, working in partnership with Live and Move, the local Sport England delivery pilot.

It also aims to build cross-cultural understanding and strengthen community relationships.
