Inclusive badminton tournament gets a big thumbs up Inclusive Exeter

An inclusive badminton tournament in Exeter has been declared a smashing success after many teams turned up for the event.

The two-day event held at the City Council's Wonford Sports Centre, was organised by Inclusive Exeter in association with the City Council's Live and Move team, who sponsored the event along with Devon Bengali Association and Amicus Law.

Lots of teams took part over the weekend but it was Royal Bengal Tigers who were the overall winners with 60 points, just two points ahead of KKPP with 58 points. A large crowd of supporters attended to watch the games, including two very tense semi-finals and the final.

Kate Hannan, Inclusive Exeter vice-chair, said: “Sincere thanks to everyone who took part or assisted with this weekend’s Badminton Tournament. What a fabulous event it was with some really close games and a thrilling final.

“Well done to all the players who did themselves proud and to our super chefs who provided such delicious lunches on both days.

“Thanks also to the people who helped behind the scenes, washing up, clearing away, moving chairs etc, etc. Your help is appreciated too.

The Lord Mayor, Cllr Kevin Mitchell, a former badminton player, presented the trophies and congratulated all those who took part.

Cllr Duncan Wood, Lead Councillor for Leisure Services and Physical Activity, said: “It was wonderful that so many people from such a diverse set of backgrounds came together in the name of sport and friendship. What a fantastic event!”
