Free Family Fun at the Riverside Leisure Centre

Get set for a weekend of free family fun at the Riverside Leisure Centre in Exeter later this month.
The event has been organised to mark the reopening of the pool and health suite after a lengthy closure following a fire in 2017.
The Centre had to undergo a massive rebuilding programme and has also been brought up-to-date with new changing rooms, coinless lockers and other modern facilities.
On Saturday 24 July, families will have the chance to enjoy free swimming at the Riverside, including:
- Free inflatable fun sessions in the pool
- Free gym and sports sessions
- Face painting
- Children’s entertainment
- Live music
- Chance to meet ‘Sid the Big Dog’
- And much more
On Sunday 25 July, families will be able to enjoy free swim, gym and sports sessions.
People will need to book the sessions in advance via the Exeter Leisure App or website.
Cllr Duncan Wood, Lead Councillor for Leisure and Physical Activity, said: “We’re excited to be getting the pool open once again and we’ve organised this weekend of family fun to say thank you to everyone for their patience over the last few years.
“It hasn’t been an easy journey but I’m glad to say that finally we are there and can once again enjoy the newly improved Riverside Leisure Centre.”
The huge transformation programme has created:
- New changing areas and first floor changing rooms with new tiling, wall cladding, cubicles
- New coinless lockers which open electronically - there will be no need for coins anywhere inside the leisure centre
- New Health Suite which has been rebuilt with a steam room, sauna and spa pool
- New acoustic baffles and wall acoustic material fitted above the pool
- New flooring on the balcony and seating area has been fitted and modern spectator seating installed
- New plant serving the main and learner pools, alongside other mechanical and electrical engineering work, to improve the future operation of the facility
