Leaders from Sport England have been shown around the city’s award-winning Passivhaus leisure centre St Sidwell’s Point during a fact-finding visit to the city.

Lisa Dodd-Mayne, Sport England’s Executive Director of Place, was in Exeter to discover how the city is helping to ensure all of its residents remain active in their daily lives.

As well as touring the state-of-the-art new leisure centre, Lisa and her team took a walk along Exeter Quay and heard how the Liveable Exeter Place Board and Exeter Local Plan are helping Exeter become a healthier, happier and more active city.

Live and Move is Exeter and Cranbrook’s Sport England Local Delivery Pilot, which works with partners to support people to get more movement into their daily lives, and ensuring this work is embedded in local policy and strategy.

City Council Leader Phil Bialyk said he was delighted to welcome the Sport England team to Exeter and highlight the work happening in the city.

He said: “We are very proud of the work taking place in Exeter to make sure that all of our residents remain active and healthy, and that everyone has access to outstanding leisure facilities.

“It was great to be able to highlight this work and explain our plans for the future to Sport England. We are committed to making Exeter the most active location in the country, a city where there are no barriers to active travel and where all residents can enjoy a fantastic quality of life.”
