Exeter’s Red Coat Guides bring history to life

Stuck for something to do? Exeter’s Red Coat Guides bring history to life in Exeter with a programme of free walking tours.
Operating throughout the year – even at the weekends – the Red Coat Guided Tours can take the boredom out of a dull or drizzly Saturday morning, lifting the lid of Exeter’s colourful past.
The Red Coats have a new tranche of fully-fledged guides just itching to reveal the secrets of days gone by in this great city.
All tours (apart from the Historic Quayside Tour) depart from the John Hooker statue on Cathedral Green.
People can chose from a range of 13 tours, days and start times:
- Forgotten Exeter – Mondays & Thursdays at 11am
- Introducing Exeter – Mondays and Saturdays at 11am (1 hour)
- Medieval Exeter – Mondays at 2pm, Wednesdays at 11am and Fridays at 2pm
- Exeter Old & New – Tuesdays at 11am, Thursdays and Saturdays at 2.30pm
- Exeter’s Historic Quayside – Tuesdays at 11.30 and Saturdays at 2pm
- Churches, Cemeteries & the Catacomb – Tuesdays at 2pm, Fridays at 11am
- Tudor Exeter – Tuesdays at 2.30pm
- Ghosts & Legends – Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7pm
- Heart of Exeter - Wednesdays at 2pm
- Cathedral Close & Bishop’s Palace Garden – Wednesdays at 2.30pm
- Cathedral to Quay – Thursdays and Sundays at 2pm
- Georgian Exeter – Fridays at 2.30pm
- Exeter’s City Wall – Sundays at 11am (2 hours)
The tours last around 90 minutes (unless specified differently above) and give people – visitors and residents alike – the chance to discover one of the oldest and most beautiful cities in England.
Tours will only go ahead with a minimum of two people on the tour and may be subject to cancellation without notice, there is a limit to the number of people that can join each tour.
Only assistance dogs are permitted on tours, and children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
