Residents and visitors are getting ready to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee by making bunting, crowns and shields in time for Exeter’s summer street party in the city centre.

Exeter’s Community Builders have been busy making amazing bunting with community groups and residents across the city.

And there’s still time left to prepare in style for the celebrations.

Children can make sure they are fully prepared for the big day by making a Jubilee crown or shield at Exeter’s RAMM museum.

Sessions will be held at the RAMM on Tuesday 31 May, from 10.30am to 3.30pm, and on Wednesday 1 June, from 10.30am to 3.30pm. The cost is £3.50 per child.

RAMM will provide the resources – children will provide the skill and imagination, by choosing the style of crown to make and decorating it with colour, jewels, sequins and material.

Alternatively, they can choose a felt shield and design and make a crest or coat of arms to cut out and stick on. They can then be worn with pride - especially when attending a jubilee party.

The big Jubilee celebration takes place on Thursday 2 June in the High Street, Cathedral Green, Princesshay, Guildhall Shopping centre and elsewhere in the city centre, from 11am until 3pm.

Community groups and organisations from across the city will converge on Cathedral Green to take part in the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations in Exeter city centre.

Benches and tables will be set up in the High Street for people to enjoy the Street Party. As well as live music and people can bring their own picnic or click and collect from nearby restaurants. Alcohol is not permitted to be consumed in the High Street.

Family entertainment will be held on Cathedral Green, together with a host of community groups and organisations including Exeter Academy of Dance, Visit Exeter, Exeter Leisure, disability charity CEDA with Access All Aerials Radio, Community Zone Bringing Families Together, Live & Move, Inclusive Exeter and Exeter City Community Trust.

Music across the city will be provided by The Liberty Sisters, The Footloose Four, Chris Pope, Exeter Railway Band, Devon and Somerset Fire Rescue Band and Exeter Jazz Orchestra.

A Beach Bar will be set up in Princesshay Square serving Jubilee inspired drinks during the event.

As part of the celebrations and in partnership with The Battalion of the 6 Rifles, there will be a Military village on Cathedral Green.

The Devon branch of SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity will attend, as will 13 (City of Exeter) Squadron Air Training Corps.

A beacon will be lit at Exeter Quayside in the evening.
