Exeter’s quest for its favourite book begins City Reads

Exeter City of Literature has announced plans to discover the city’s favourite book.

The initiative, called City Reads, starts on 7 March - World Book Day. Organisations citywide, from community groups to large corporations, will be invited to nominate their beloved novels.

City Reads aims to engage the community in a literary celebration. Organisations will receive an information pack with guidelines on participation and nomination submission.

The campaign will showcase each group's final book choice across Exeter. A public vote, beginning 9th June, will determine the city's most cherished book.

The initiative celebrates Exeter's rich literary history, dating back over a millennium. Exeter's status as a UNESCO City of Literature and its popular libraries and bookshops underscore its reading culture.

City Reads not only commemorates Exeter's literary heritage but also aims to enhance book access. The event concludes on International Literacy Day, 8 September, with a special celebration.

Interested organisations can contact Liv Hooper, Public Programmes Manager at liv@exetercityofliterature.com to participate. The deadline for expressions of interest is 15 February.
