Exeter College praises council for essential food hygiene talk Simon Ruddy, Exeter’s Principal Environmental Health Officer

The Council’s Environmental Health team has been praised by Exeter College after its catering students were given an introduction to food hygiene and safety.

Simon Ruddy, Exeter’s Principal Environmental Health Officer, spoke to students from College Restaurant @34, which has just won the AA College Restaurant of the Year award.

He highlighted the requirements of food hygiene for catering staff and explained how the public are protected through legislation and regular inspections of premises.

The college restaurant posted on social media: “Huge thanks to Simon Ruddy for a brilliant food hygiene talk for our learners on Tuesday.

“Getting the very best people in to support and enrich the delivery to our students is crucial. Thank you Exeter City Council and looking forward to having you back soon to discuss Health & Safety.”

Simon said: “This was a fabulous opportunity to engage with students who have a passion for catering and hospitality.

“We work tirelessly with food businesses throughout the city to make sure that the highest standards of hygiene are maintained; it’s great to know that the College is keen to ensure that all of its catering students are fully informed about the latest legislation and food safety guidance affecting their industry.”

The Council runs a variety of food hygiene courses for staff in the catering industry. For more information about future courses email Huw Edwards, Environmental Health and Community Safety, at huw.edwards@exeter.gov.uk
