Exeter celebrates new collection of literature – Quay Voices #1

Published: 4 August 2021

Exeter celebrates new collection of literature Quay Voices #1

A collection of new works from a waterside writing hub in Exeter has been published and is now available to buy.

Quay Voices #1 is the first ever anthology of new writing from the Quay Words programme of live literature at the City Council’s historic Custom House. The initiative is part of Exeter’s UNESCO City of Literature programme.

Packed with sparkling stories, poetry, flash fiction and creative non-fiction, Quay Voices #1 celebrates the many and varied voices calling out from this new hub for literature in a landmark building on Exeter Quayside.

The anthology includes work by writers-in-residence, performers and tutors, ranging from the pilot resident writer, Louisa Adjoa Parker, to Patrick Gale, Monique Roffey, Raymond Antrobus and many more.

The work of these established writers sits alongside their selection of contributions from Quay Voices: talented new and emerging writers with whom they had been working at Quay Words. All ages are represented, from Exeter primary school learners to the winners of the Trading Places young writers’ flash fiction competition and older writers starting out later in life.

Quay Voices #1 is published by Impress Books. It is available to purchase online at https://www.impress-books.co.uk/product/quay-voices/  or to order from bookshops. All proceeds from sales will be invested into Quay Words: a not-for-profit, diverse and open access programme of literature at the heart of Exeter.

Quay Words is a partnership between Exeter Canal and Quay Trust and Literature Works, the literature development charity for South West England.

Quay Words is based at the historic Exeter Custom House on Exeter Quayside. It showcases literature as an accessible and diverse art form and is funded by Arts Council England until May 2022 to continue developing this Grade 1 listed building as a hub for literature at the heart of Exeter – a newly-designated UNESCO City of Literature.
