Exeter businesses offered training and support to boost digital skills

Published: 1 November 2021

Support and advice on digital skills is available to Exeter businesses

Businesses in Exeter are now able to benefit from specialist training and support to help them with a range of digital and technical skills.

Exeter City Council has commissioned local Digital Skills experts Cosmic, who will be providing a range of training workshops and one-to-one bespoke advice and guidance.

The programme, Digital Boost Exeter, offers free and fully funded training to all businesses based in the Council area, until March 31 2022.

A broad range of high-quality, digital skills training is available right now, as well as one-to-one advice tailored specifically to businesses’ needs.

The workshops are designed to increase digital skills and knowledge. Workshop topics will cover the principles of website design, e-commerce for small businesses, using Google Analytics to monitor performance of websites, digital productivity tools, online collaboration and remote working with Microsoft 365.

The Covid-19 pandemic forced businesses to take up a more digital way of working, accelerating the rate of Digital Transformation in Exeter.

But many businesses have either not reacted enough, or feel that they still lack guidance and skills to make the most of the digital world. The world of trade and commerce remains challenging, and digital resources and skills can provide a proven advantage to businesses – helping them to reach new customers and trade in new ways.

Cllr Rachel Sutton said: “We are really excited to be working with Cosmic to offer this programme of support to our businesses.

“In the wake of the pandemic, we know that many are reviewing their operations and looking at new ways of marketing and running their business, we hope that this programme will provide the tools and ability for them to do just that. We hope that the blend of workshops and one-to-one support will also enable businesses to get the specific support that they need.”

Fiona Cummings, Founder of The Jambo Collective, Exeter, said: “The support and help I received from Cosmic has been invaluable.

"The digital training was easy to understand and trainers were always available if we had any questions. I am now sending out regular Mail Chimp newsletters, I have optimised all my products for SEO and I’m checking Google Analytics on a regular basis.”
