Disposing of your Christmas Tree - Denis the Dustcart Blog

Christmas tree disposal Hospiscare’s real tree collection scheme

In his regular feature, Denis the Dustcart talks about how you can get rid of your real Christmas tree this year.

You can follow Denis on his Facebook page to keep up with information about Recycling issues.

When the sad time comes for taking down your tree, you have a number of options for ‘laying it to rest’.

ECC garden waste customers can place their real Christmas tree out for collection with or without their brown bin on their first garden collection of the year (collections begin again in late January – see exeter.gov.uk/bincollections from mid-January for your specific collection date).

You can take it to one of Devon County Council’s recycling centres in Exeter – either in Marsh Barton or on Pinbrook Road.

You can sign up to Hospiscare’s real tree collection scheme for a donation: hospiscare.co.uk/event/christmas-tree-recycling

Don’t put your tree out with your black bin as it will not be collected.

Don’t leave your tree in a car park, by recycling banks or in another public place. We don’t provide drop-off points for tree collections and don’t have the resources to collect and dispose of trees other than those put out by garden waste customers (see above).

Bear in mind that leaving a tree in a public space is an act of fly tipping.

Clearing fly-tipped trees puts a strain on our services at a time when they are already under severe pressure from staff shortages – a problem impacting local authorities, organisations and businesses across the country.

We are working hard during this extremely challenging period to maintain the city’s waste and recycling service without disruption. This is our priority, and we appreciate the efforts of everyone managing their waste – including their sadly departed Christmas tree – responsibly.

Thank you for helping us to keep Exeter moving.
