Dining domes set to offer eating experience in Exeter

Striking dining domes have started to appear outside a number of city centre restaurants, giving people a chance to eat out in their own support bubble.
Exeter City Council is part-funding the seven domes, which are heated and seat up to eight guests around a table. New government restrictions allow groups of more than six to socialise only when they are from the same household or support bubble.
The idea of the domes came out of the Visitor Economy Recovery Group, which looks to support the hospitality, cultural and heritage sector which has been greatly hit by the Coronavirus pandemic.
The domes, which are transparent and measure 3.6m in diameter will be situated outside the following restaurants/pubs:
- Rockfish, Piazza Terracina, Exeter Quay
- Mango’s (during the day) and Waterfront (evenings until 10pm), King’s Wharf, Exeter Quay
- Prospect Inn (two domes), Exeter Quay (two pods)
- Artigiano (two domes), High Street, Exeter
- 3 Topsham, Fore Street, Topsham, Exeter
Lord Charles Courtenay, Chair of the Visitor Economy Recovery Group, said: “We wanted to offer a new dining experience in the heart of the city that meets with government guidance, offers people confidence of remaining in their own support bubble, but at the same time is exciting and a little bit different.”
Council Leader Phil Bialyk, said: “This is a fantastic idea and I can’t wait to try one of the dining domes out and enjoy a meal in what will be a very ambient setting. The domes tick all the boxes and I can see them proving very popular in the lead up to Christmas.”
The domes will remain in place until 4 January. They will be run by their associated restaurants, pubs or cafes. To find out more and to book, go to the Visit Exeter website . Pre-booking is essential.
