Council introduces new payment system

Council introduces new payment system CivicaPay

People in Exeter making payments to the City Council can now do so via a new income management system.

The new system, CivicaPay, has been introduced to provide enhanced security controls to better protect customers and their card details when paying things like council tax, housing rent, business rates, whilst maintaining a full range of payment choices.

The new system accepts, processes, stores and transmits card information securely in line with PCI DSS industry standards.

The Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) is a set of security standards with a focus on improving payment account security throughout the transaction process.  The standards are administered and managed by an independent body that was created by the major payment card brands (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover and JCB).

The new system will better protect residents’ card data and reduce the risk of credit and debit card fraud.

In addition to improving card security, customers can now pay by PayPal.  PayPal is the service that lets people pay, send money and accept payment without having to enter their financial details each time.

The new telephone number for customers that prefer to use the automated telephone payment service is 0300 456 0636.
