Collapsed wall prompts road and play park closure

Published: 22 December 2020

Collapsed Wall Collapsed wall

Part of Countess Wear Road has had to be closed to traffic following the collapse of a wall.

The wall, which borders the old play area at King George V Playing Fields, has fallen into the road below, making it impassable to vehicles just south of the junction with Mill Road. No-one was hurt.

Police have sealed off a short section of the road and the City Council has closed the nearby play area.

Vehicles north of the closure can still exit via Topsham Road, whilst those living south of the closure can get out onto Bridge Road.

Part of the road is likely to remain closed for most of the day, whilst the City Council clear up the debris and make it safe.

The inclusive play area in King George V remains open as this is a different play facility than the old one that the Council has had to close as a result of the collapsed wall.
