Children take centre stage for We Are The Ocean project in Exeter
Published: 25 June 2024
Children have taken part in an event in Exeter city centre to celebrate and protect the ocean using poetry and art.
We Are The Ocean, held in Princesshay Square, united 400 children from the UK and United Arab Emirates who connected through science, stories and art to take action for the ocean.
The project took the voices of young people who have a vision for the future for our planet. Their messages were delivered to world leaders at last year’s COP28 Climate Change Conference in Dubai.
The event in Princesshay featured:
Live music performances by British Institution for Modern Music artists
Children’s poetry performances in English and Arabic
The opportunity to co-create a new Ocean Poem for Exeter
The award-winning Sounds of the Ocean film
Creative activities including origami and pom pom making
