Businesses urged to be patient with new lockdown grants

The government today (5 January) announced that it was launching £4.6 billion in new lockdown grants to support businesses and protect jobs. The grants would be administered by local authorities.
Exeter City Council urged businesses to be patient and not contact the council until it had worked through details of how the grant will be administered.
A spokesman for the Council said: “We will publicise how businesses can apply for these new grants once we have put a process in place. In the meantime, we would request that people do not contact the council until that process is ready, as our staff are busy getting everything ready. We are working as fast as we possibly can to support the livelihoods that will depend on this and will be in touch as soon as we are ready to go.”
