City bin collection crews to work throughout the holidays Bin collection crews will be working throughout the holidays in Exeter

With the Christmas and New Year celebrations approaching, the city’s bin collection crews will be working hard to ensure that all bins are collected.

Despite the busy holiday season, crews will be out working every day except for the bank holidays, so residents are asked to ensure bins are put out when collections are due.

To help our crews complete their rounds efficiently, residents and their guests are asked to not park on corners or in any other way that might obstruct the path of collection vehicles.

Our drivers are experienced and will not attempt to enter a road if they believe there is a risk of hitting a parked car.

It’s important to remember that if our collection vehicles cannot access a road, it’s likely that emergency vehicles won’t be able to either.

With traffic getting heavier over the holiday season, crews have reported several near misses with cars not leaving them enough room to safely collect bins.

We ask that drivers please leave space, and avoid queuing too closely behind the collection vehicle or attempting to squeeze past when loaders are emerging from between cars.

We understand that it can be frustrating to wait behind a bin collection crew, but rounds are carefully planned to avoid the busiest routes and times.

In some cases, it may be unavoidable for a crew to be working in heavy traffic. We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation, and our crews thank you for making their job a little easier.
