A winter’s night of poetry and music takes centre stage at Exeter Library Chris Tutton and Anne Denholm

A special winter evening of poetry and music takes place at Exeter Library next month.

The event, on Thursday 8 February, at 7.15pm, features poetry and harp duo Chris Tutton and Anne Denholm, plus a set from the incredible Beth Calverley.

Anne Denholm is one of the leading British harpists of her generation. She is joint Principal Harp with the BBC Concert Orchestra and served as Official Harpist to HRH The Prince of Wales from 2015-2019.

An Associate of the Royal Academy of Music, she is a founding member of contemporary experimental quartet The Hermes Experiment, who in 2021 were awarded the Royal Philharmonic Society Young Artist Award.

Chris Tutton is the critically acclaimed and award-winning author of eight collections of poetry.

Beth Calverley is a poet, creative coach and founder of The Poetry Machine. Her poetry lives and breathes, holding your hand through crisp emotional landscapes.

Also performing on the night will be the winner of the Young People’s Poetry Prize.

In the run up to the event the hunt is on to discover a new talent from the city’s emerging poets.

One young poet, aged 16-25, will be picked to perform a poem on the night, and will receive a £50 performance fee. There are also prizes for two highly commended poems.

To enter, email your name, age, and your poem to chris.white@librariesunlimited.org.uk by 5pm on Sunday 28 January. The winner will be notified by Tuesday 30 January, and entries will be judged by representatives from Exeter Library, Exeter City of Literature and Spork! Poetry.

Submissions can be in the form of a video, audio file or written (no more 20 lines long, or three minutes of audio or video.

Entrants must be based in Devon, and available to attend the performance on February 8.
