Lord Mayor of Exeter releases Christmas message
Published: 20 December 2021
The Lord Mayor of Exeter has released a Christmas message for residents in the city.
In her message, recorded at Exeter’s historic Guildhall, Cllr Trish Oliver reflected on the meaning of Christmas in our multicultural society, after recently attending carol services, Hannukah, Navraati and a visit to the Mosque.
She said: “Christmas is about sharing our good fortune, with our family, friends and all those in need. Jesus saw everyone as of equal worth as a human being, regardless of ability, disability, status, power or powerlessness.
“The themes of celebration and goodwill to all men and women, and provision for those in need, echo through all religions - and all of them celebrate a festival of light in the cold dark winter months.
“I feel lucky to have been able to attend many of these celebrations, and other events to meet many different people, from different cultures and walks of life, as Lord Mayor of Exeter.”
