Work to retrofit Council homes in Exeter recognised in national awards National Retrofit Academy Awards

Work to make Council housing stock in Exeter more energy efficient and save tenants money on their energy bills has been recognised at national level.

The City Council just missed out on winning a top national award for its work on retrofitting homes in the city.

The work carried out by the housing team on the 'trees and poets' estate in Wonford, received a nomination at the National Retrofit Academy Awards. The body of work was recognised in the Best Local Authority or Social Housing Retrofit Programme.

The nomination was for the first phase of carbon retrofit works in the area carried out under Green Homes Grant funding.

John Harris, Housing Assets' Planned Repairs Lead, said: “This demonstrates that all the hard work and effort we are all putting in to improve our housing stock, help our residents with the energy crisis and drive towards net zero carbon emissions is being recognised not just locally but nationally.

“It was very pleasing to be mixing with a number of other organisations on the same journey but more importantly to know that Exeter City Council are held in high esteem by these organisations across the country.

“We may not have one this award but I am sure other awards will follow if we keep doing what we are doing,” he added.

While Exeter was nominated for the national award, the eventual winner was Clarion Housing.
